Scholar Exchange with Fulbright program...!!!

Full Bright Program was started by then Senator-J. William Fulbright -of Arkansas in 1946. It is a scholarship program for scholars exchange around the world for better mutual understanding among all the people of the world. The Full Bright is sponsored by U.S Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs with a till date participation of 294,000 Fulbrighters in this program. A program cannot be success in the lack of funds. Funding for Fulbright scholarship 2011 is an annual appropriation made by the United States Congress to the Department of States. Funding is also supported by the participating country and hosting institutions directly or indirectly through cost-sharing and indirect support such as supplement salary, university housing and tuition waivers.



This program is administered by Bureau of Educational and Cultural affairs of united States Department of state under guidelines and policies set up by J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board (FSB).These policies assure the fulfillment of the purpose set up for Fulbright Scholarship programs and administers the program with the assistance of Binational Commissions and foundation in 50 countries, US embassies in 100 countries and a number of cooperating agencies in United states and other countries.

Number of exchange programs are included in “Fulbright Program” both institutional and individual grant. The main four are:-

  • Fulbright U.S scholar Program: - This program sends approx 1,100 American scholars and professional per year to approx 125 countries for research and lectures on the wide variety of professional and academic fields.
  • Fulbright Specialist Program: - It is a compliment to the core Fulbright scholarship program which sends U.S scholars to overseas to serve as expert consultants for faculty development, institutional planning, curriculum and related subjects for a period of 2-6 weeks.
  • Fulbright Visiting Scholars program: - Grant opportunity to approx 850 foreign scholars from over 95 countries to conduct research or lecture in US institutes for an academic semester to full academic year.
  • Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program: - This program enables US colleges and universities to host foreign academics to lecture on a wide range of subject field for a semester or full academic year.

Fulbright scholarship 2011 demands for the following norms to be fulfilled by applicants: -

  • Foreign language proficiency: - As specified or required for the completion of the project.
  • College or University teaching experience: -Applicant should have respective experience at the level and in the field of proposed lecture activity as described in the award description at the time of application.
  • A Ph.D or equivalent professional/terminal degree: - As described in the award. It may include master’s degree depending on the field as appropriate at the time of application. For professional and artist outside academe, recognized professional standing and substantial professional accomplishments is required.
  • US Citizenship: - Applicants should be a legal US citizen at the time of application. Permanent residence status is not sufficient.
  • Should have sound mental and physical health.
  • Limited apply for previous Fulbright Scholars

Candidates who are not eligible for the program: -

  • Employees, spouses or dependent children under contract with the United states Department of States are not eligible for a Fulbright course until one year after employee’s termination.
  • A aspiring candidate who had lived abroad for 5 years or more preceding date of application is not eligible for the award.

Applicants must disclose any prior convection for commission of a felony or a misdemeanor (excludes minor traffic violations) or have been arrested fro, indicted for, or charged with a felony or misdemeanor (excluding minor traffic violations) and the criminal matter not resolved until the date of application or during the selection process.
