Easy passage to Oxford...Rhodes Scholarships...!!!

Rhodes alumni and some distinguished non-Scholar members of the community selects 82 Rhodes Scholars annually form 14 distinct countries or some group of countries. Rhodes Scholarship 2011 provides an easy gateway for the Oxford to the entire aspiring and deserving candidate. Established after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, this is the oldest international scholarship....bring extraordinary talent to Oxford University from all around the world.



Rhodes selects scholars on the basis of merit and academic achievements, they always choose the one with outstanding intellect, character, leadership and commitment to service.. The selection criteria as found in the Will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, govern selection across all Rhodes constituencies. They are:-

  • Literary and scholastic attainments.
  • Energy to use one’s talents to the full
  • Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
  • Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interested in one’s fellow beings.

Rhodes selects talent of diverse backgrounds without regard to race, gender, marital status, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religion, social background, color, caste, or disability.

Rhodes scholarships are available for most of the country specifically. So the applicant needs to get the detailed information about all the requirements of their constituencies by visiting the respective site. In general, the common material applicant needs to submit are following, they may differ on the forms of different constituencies:-

  • Curriculum Vitae/resume or list of principal activities
  • Evidence of academic record/ transcript (complete or in progress) of undergraduate degree and any postgraduate study
  • Evidence of age/ birth certificate/ passport
  • Personal statement or essay (including crucially a clear statement of what the applicant wishes to study at the oxford and why)
  • Photograph
  • List of referees (usually several are required) who can attest to the character and intellect of the applicant, including academic, personal, extra-curricular and leadership achievements.
  • English language proficiency (Where English is not the first language).

Online forms are available for the candidates please visit the respective website, but please check the constituencies’ specific requirements which can vary. For the applicants from Kenya, Pakistan and New Zealand contact the Rhodes secretary in those constituencies for the hard copy of the form as online application submission facility is not available for those countries.

Eligibility requirements for Rhodes scholarship 2011 are given below. All aspiring applicants have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria of the Scholarship:-

  • Age:- Age limit varies from constituencies to constituencies it can be from 18 years to 28 and 24 to 25. Please check the age requirements for your constituencies before applying.
  • Education:- Rhodes Scholars need to have a high academic standard. Completion of bachelor’s degree is required. Academic Achievement must be high to insure admission in Oxford. Please check for detailed requirements on the specific constituency website.
  • Residency and citizenship:- Each applicant should fulfill the required citizenship and residency criteria demanded by Rhodes constituency of the respective country.

Rhodes scholarships is a gateway for any deserving candidate to fulfill his/her dreams to Oxford.
