Many individual who are applying for the financial aid program have been marred with weeks and months long awaiting caused due to student loan delays. There is certainly a huge number of forms and university applications pending that has to be approved so that the students can get the money to complete their higher studies. There has been increasing cases of complaints filed by the parents and other individuals who report about the applications have been lost or misplaced and it is likely that they won’t be getting any kind of financial help when the students get enrolled to the colleges and university this coming September.
The Student Loan Company has said that unlike last year’s failure in student loan delays, it would not continue this year but rather things would get comfortable once the A Level results are being published by the end of August 2010. The future of thousands of students is at stake if they are unable to get the required amount of money to manage their study expenses. On the other hand, the SLC is likely to create a new kind of scheme with the help of which it would provide grants to those students who are unable to get any kind of financial aid when their term starts in September 2010. The NAO or National Audit Office is of the view that there is a substantial amount of risk involved and student loan delays that happened past year is more likely to repeat itself in 2010 also.
If such a thing happens and the students are deprived of the financial aid, then it would be a matter of great embarrassment for the Student Loan Company. There is a lot of anxiety and anger in the air and if the A Level results are not revealed by next week then it would make matters worse for everyone involved in it. When talked to the students, they say that they have been asked to send the same application form for the umpteenth time and in spite of doing so, no desirable results are obtained. Moreover the customer support is absolutely poor and half the telephone call made to the call centers goes unanswered. The frustrating thing is that the students have not been informed whether they would get the financial assistance or not and the entire thing hangs in a gloomy cloud and nothing can be guessed about anything.
If the Student Loan Delays continue then it would certainly affect the life of thousands and thousands of students as well as their concerned families. According to some reports, about 63% of the applications have been approved so far who would be getting the finance for their higher studies. Out of the remaining 37%, 103,000 applicants have to provide further information and about 37,000 applications are in progress. Only time will say whether students would get the financial aid within the time limit or they would have to experience the after effects of the student loan delays that happened in 2009.
